Family Experience Ted comes from a long familial relationship with financial and estate planning in the Hampton Roads Region. His grandfather, Charles L. Kaufman, was a founding partner of the tax law firm of Kaufman & Canoles. His father, George M. Kaufman, along with Ted’s uncle, Charles L. Kaufman, Jr., founded Kaufman Brothers, Inc., a private investment firm that later became BB&T Scott & Stringfellow’s first Hampton Roads branch. Personal A third-generation resident of Hampton Roads, Ted likes to spend time kayaking the various waterways and ocean in Hampton Roads. He also enjoys spending time with his son, Chuck, and reading science fiction and economic history. Ted believes in supporting the community where he was raised by sharing his time with the Ohef Sholom Temple, various medical organizations, WHRO public radio, and television along with other community service organizations. In 2005, he received the Kurt Rosenbach Award for volunteer leadership. He was recruited and won the 2011 United Way “Dancing with the Stars” competition. Because of his service in the community, Ted received the Henry B. Kaufmann Award for community service along with the Jewish Community Hero in 2011.
